Vitality Massage Therapy Clinic.
I was in Gibsons, BC, a 40 minute ferry ride north of Vancouver, February 2012, where I completed the Temple Style Lomi Lomi massage training. Many thanks to Wayne Powell and Patti Miller of the Shamanic Bodywork School for sharing their wealth of knowledge. I've already incorporated their advanced techniques into my practice and am getting rave reviews from my patients.

Here are some pics I took at Gibsons, including the restaurant "Molly's Reach" of the tv show "Beachcombers" fame as well as a shot of the waterfront just down the road from Lower Gibsons.

Above is BC Place Stadium, with its new retractable roof, as taken through a rainy car window. From a distance, the roof looks like a UFO. Also, Patti, my lomi lomi teacher, posing with a metal goose on her front lawn.

I was in Gibsons, BC again in April 2012, where I completed the Heartworks Style Lomi Lomi massage training. Thanks again to Patti for a great class. This style of lomi lomi is quite different from Temple Style and I will be offering it soon as a separate session.

Late April has got to be the best time to visit Vancouver, where everything is in bloom, especially the magnolias, rhododendrons and cherry trees.
Each child has, at birth,
a bowl of perfect light,
If he tends to his light,
it will grow in strength and
he can do all things
swim with sharks,
fly with birds,
know and understand all things
If however, he becomes
envious, jealous, angry, or fearful,
he drops a stone into his bowl of light
and some of the light goes out
Light and Stone cannot hold the same space
If he continues to
put stones in the bowl,
the light will go out and
he will become a stone himself
A stone does not grow
nor does it move
If at any time he tires
of being a stone,
all he needs to do is
turn the bowl upside down
and the stones will fall away and
the light will grow once more

Ho'oponopono -
The Hawaiian Healing Method of Getting Back to Zero
Ho'oponopono really made a huge ripple when Dr. Joe Vitale and Dr. Len Haleakala came out with their book "Zero Limits". In the book, Joe Vitale describes his incredible experiences from using Ho'oponopono as a method to "get back to zero".
Getting back to zero through Ho'oponopono is an effective and beautiful way to release and let go of negatively charged memories and emotions. According to Ho'oponopono, there are only two places that we can be coming from when we are creating our lives: Memories and Inspiration.
Most people are living from memory. They are unaware of what is really here and the underlying perfection. Instead, they experience the world through their "data", their unconscious belief systems, their memories.
Through 4 powerful phrases, you can stop creating the cycle of pain you've been creating thus far. It's so simple. These four phrases are:
1. "I love you"
2. "I'm sorry"
3. "Please forgive me"
4. "Thank you"
These four phrases can start creating miracles in your life. These are some of the most powerful forces in the Universe: Love, Forgiveness, and Gratitude.
Every time you perceive something that is painful, coming from a memory, perceptions of imperfection, etc, use this process. Simply say it like a silent mantra...and notice what starts to happen as you apply Ho'oponopono to your everyday life.
Getting back to zero through Ho'oponopono is one of the most rewarding and beneficial experiences you can have. It is a powerful tool. And like all tools, it's power is released when you use it.

Feedback off Groupon Website about Vitality Massage

I was in Gibsons, BC again in August 2012, where I completed the Big Island Style Lomi Lomi massage training. The Big Island massage course is based on the work of Auntie Margaret Machado, a native Hawaiian elder who was one of the first Hawaiians to teach Lomi Lomi massage to non-Hawaiians. Her style, along with Temple Style Lomi Lomi, are the two most practiced and well known styles of Lomi Lomi practiced in the world. Thanks again to Patti for a great class.

The business sign at the front of Patti's house that greets all her visitors.
This visit to BC was the first time I have ever been in the Pacific ocean off the BC coast. Although I've lived in BC for ten years, I've always thought it was too cold and polluted to swim in the ocean, but I've been told that there are two months every year where the Pacific is warm enough to swim in near Vancouver with just a bathing suit, and that is July and August. I wouldn't swim in the ocean off Vancouver, ( too polluted!), but the water off the Sunshine Coast was very clean. Although it was August, the swim felt like an icebath, but very refreshing.
The cruise ship I saw parked in the harbour in Vancouver, likely going to Alaska. I got this shot as I sat on the Sea Bus going from downtown Vancouver to the North Shore, on my way to Gibsons.
The above pictures I got from my visit to the Dr Sun Yat-Sen Classical Gardens in Vancouver's Chinatown. Definitely worth seeing when you are in Vancouver.

An oil painting done by Patti Miller, my Lomi Lomi massage teacher. Not only is she a massage master and teacher, but a talented artist as well. The painting is of a Hawaiian goddess overlooking the islands, with water waves shaped in the infinity symbol. It represents the circular movement of the Hawaiian massage strokes. There are also Hawaiian elemental spirits integrated in the picture. I got this painting from Patti when I saw her in August 2012 and it now hangs in my office. I draw inspiration from it as I go into my Lomi Lomi sessions.

There is a close relationship between Lomi Lomi massage and Hawaiian Hula dance. The wave like movements in Hula dance depict the elemental spirits, especially of the water element. In Lomi Lomi massage, the practitioner induces the sensation of moving water into the receiver through the hands, arms and elbows. Here are some of my favorite Hula videos on youtube.

My favorite mantra:
Open Mind
Clear View
Infinite Bliss

Hawaiian Lomi Lomi Opening Prayer
In a traditional lomi lomi session, there is an opening prayer that may be chanted or sung prior to the massage work. This is done in the Hawaiian language and is a praise to the higher powers and an invitation for their presence to empower the healing session. Hawaiian lomi lomi can be as much a spiritual experience as it can be a therapeutic session, especially when practiced by the old Kahunas (Wise Ones) in Hawaii. Below is a classic prayer used in temple style lomi lomi, with the translation beneath.
(I do not generally do the prayer in my sessions, but it is available on request.)
Aumakua, aloha, mahalo
(Oh Higher Power, we send love and give you thanks)
Auhea na aumakua, na akua, na kahuna, na kupua
(Listen Higher Beings, Ancestral Spirits, Wise Ones and Healers)
Aloha mai, hiki mai, hele mai
(Come love, come quickly)
E ho’omaika’i I ke wahine keia / or / I ka kane keia
(Give blessings to this woman / or / to this man)
I ke aloha, I ke kala, I ka malu, I ka mana, I ka pona
(Love, freedom, peace, power, goodness)
Aloha no! Aloha no! Aloha no!
(With love, with love, with love)
- Chant composed by Serge King, founder of Aloha International

Traditional Thai Massage Prayer
Traditional Thai massage also has a prayer that is commonly recited, either silently or aloud at the start of a session. This is essentially a manta paying respect to the founder of Thai medicine and Thai massage, Doctor Shivago, and asking for his guidance in treating the patient. It is spoken in the extinct Indian language of Pali, the language that many of the early Buddhist texts were written in. This prayer embodies and represents the compassion and loving-kindness a therapist attempts to incorporate into their practice.
(I do not generally do the prayer in my sessions, but it is available on request.)
Om namo Shivago silasa ahang
Karuniko sapasatanang osatha tipa-mantang
Papaso suriya jantang. gomalapato paka-sesi
Wantami bantito sumethasso arokha sumana-homi
Om namo Shivago silasa ahang
Karuniko sapasatanang osatha tipa-mantang
Papaso suriya jantang. gomalapato paka-sesi
Wantami bantito sumethasso arokha sumana-homi
Om namo Shivago silasa ahang
Karuniko sapasatanang osatha tipa-mantang
Papaso suriya jantang. gomalapato paka-sesi
Wantami bantito sumethasso arokha sumana-homi
Piyo-tewa manussanang piyo-proma namuttamo
Piyo-nakha supananang pininsiang nama-mihang
Namo puttaya navon-navien nasatit-nasatien
Ehi-mama navien-nawe napai-tang-vien
Navien mahaku ehi-mama piyong-mama
Namo-puttaya
Na-a na-wa rokha payati vina-santi
Na-a na-wa rokha payati vina-santi
Na-a na-wa rokha payati vina-santi
Translation:
We invite the spirit of our Founder, the Father Doctor Shivago, who comes to us though his saintly life. Please bring to us the knowledge of all nature, that this prayer will show us the true medicine of the universe. In the name of this mantra, we respect your help and pray that through our bodies you will bring wholeness and health to the body of the one whom we touch.
The Goddess of Healing dwells in the heavens high, while mankind lives in the world below. In the name of the Founder, may the heavens be reflected in the earth below so that this healing medicine may encircle the world.
We pray for the one whom we touch, that illness will be released and happiness will follow.
The shortened prayer is:
Om namo Shivago silasa ahang
Karuniko sapasatanang osatha tipa-mantang
Papaso suriya jantang. gomalapato paka-sesi
Wantami bantito sumethasso arokha sumana-homi

Miscellaneous Pictures
I did a photo session in August 2013 to demonstrate the various types of massage that I do. I often get asked what Hawaiian lomi lomi is, or Thai yoga massage or Rolf Structural Integration. Below are some of the pictures from the photo shoot. Much thanks to Tina the photographer for her help and creativity and to Carl for being the model.
